Lilly’s Biotechnology Discovery Research (BioTDR) organization has a track record for delivering novel biotherapeutic medicines to advance into clinical research in key areas of unmet medical need in a variety of therapeutic areas. This position is within the Lead Optimization group at the Lilly Technology Center in Indianapolis. We are responsible for generating, characterizing, and optimizing biotherapeutics from lead generation to lead optimization and preclinical development. We are searching for a highly motivated and creative research scientist with a PhD degree in biological sciences to join a talented multidisciplinary team. This position provides an outstanding opportunity to transform ideas to clinical candidates.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Designing and executing hypothesis driven experiments to identify and advance novel therapeutic modalities to clinic. A strong experience in the area of Bioconjugates and a broad understanding of different therapeutic areas is desirable.
  • Embrace and celebrate diversity by using a relevant and unique background and set of experiences to provide new ideas to deliver innovative solutions drugging novel targets.
  • Strong communication (oral and written), organizational, and leadership skills are expected.
  • Bring new and useful concepts, methods, and ideas for how research can be improved and share these to make our group better.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in biological sciences with 2-5 years of experience in Biologics Discovery OR an MS in related field and 9+ years of relevant industrial experience.

Additional Skills and Preferences

  • Strong proficiency in protein design and engineering using in-silico and experimental approaches. Target discovery and therapeutic area experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of protein structure-function relationship; including tools that assess analytical attributes, stability, conformation, and association state, and experience in bioconjugation space (including ADCs, ARCs, DACs, peptide conjugates)
  • Demonstrated self-initiative and appropriate risk-taking behaviors.
  • Exceptional problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Must be able to work productively and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple activities and thrive in a setting that requires quick movement between scientific challenges and comfort with ambiguity.
  • An active scientific curiosity and interest for complementary disciplines within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong publication records
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
