Pay: $75,000-90,000

Reporting to the Head of HR & People, the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) is a critical role in SmartestEnergy, with responsibility for supporting SmartestEnergy US departments in all areas of HR & People. This role is a hybrid role, based out of our Syracuse, NY office.

This challenging role requires a balance of strategic thinking, exceptional project management & data analytic skills, technical knowledge of all areas of human resources in terms of both compliance and best practice, wrapped up with outstanding collaboration and communication skills to support teams, implement change, and solve problems.

The role will foster partnerships that will enable the HR function to deliver exceptional quality HR services and employment culture to its teams that connects to the priorities and objectives of the business, in a meaningful way. The HRBP will maintain an effective level of business literacy about each departmentโ€™s resourcing and professional development needs, short, medium and long-term planning, its culture, challenges and successes, including any industry-specific needs.

As a key function in our business, the role requires self-sufficiency, ability to research, analyze and utilize data, stay abreast of current HR guidance, and recommend best practice, compliant solutions in a clear and concise manner.

In this role, the successful candidate will:

  • Foster partnerships with respective business units, providing HR guidance, as appropriate
  • Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with the HR team (both global and local) to develop solutions, programs and policies
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance for all applicable US locations
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions)
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues; conduct effective, compliant, thorough and objective investigations
  • Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity, engagement, and retention
  • Work closely with the global HR team to collaborate and deliver global initiatives locally
  • Provide HR policy guidance and interpretation, develops, updates, and implements policies or revised policies as needed or required
  • Assist with determining appropriate recruitment strategy, based on current and future needs of individual teams
  • Create and oversee programs relating to career progression and internal mobility, and implement the necessary resources to promote the effectiveness of the programs
  • Provide guidance and input on business team restructures, workforce planning and succession planning
  • Identify training needs for business teams and individual executive coaching needs
  • Participate in evaluation and monitoring of training programs to ensure success and follows up to ensure training objectives are met

To be successful in this role, you are likely to have the following skills/experience:

  • 5-10 years of progressive Human Resources generalist experience, including but not limited to compliance, recruitment, onboarding, retention, performance management, employee relations, compensation and benefits, training and development, as well as knowledge of federal and multi-state employment requirements

  • Prior experience with multi-state locations

  • Prior experience of delivering transformational business and platform change from a human resources and people perspective and delivery of successful outcomes (i.e., seeing through to the end)

  • A good understanding of workflow management

  • Experience with facilitating change through project management

  • Acting as a leading collaborator across multiple business teams

  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills

  • Understands relationship between HR initiatives and business drivers

  • Up-to-date knowledge of best practice HR trends and people management techniques

  • Talent management strategies, retention and employee engagement strategies

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to effectively present both virtually and in-person

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances (federal, state, and local), and policies

  • Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization's industry, structure, roles, qualifications, compensation practices, and the administrative practices related to those factors

  • Strong research skills

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
