Mission

At our company, we are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior/Lead Geotechnical Engineer to join our team and help drive our success. As a Senior/Lead Geotechnical Engineer at CIMA+, you will work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, on challenging and exciting projects, and make a significant impact in the field of geotechnical engineering.

You will also be responsible for leading a team of talented engineers and building the team to meet the increasing demand. Projects may include the design or rehabilitation of linear infrastructure, buildings, roads, hydraulic and earthwork structures, slope stability, soil dynamics, and both temporary and permanent retaining structures.

The engineer will also be responsible for building and leading a team. The role will primarily focus on private and public clients in Ontario, with potential projects in other regions of Canada as well.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning and designing geotechnical projects by conducting site investigations that involve exploratory drilling, sampling, testing, and analysis of data to provide recommendations.
  • Evaluating geological and geotechnical data to determine the characteristics and behavior of soil and rock mass materials at the construction site. Based on their analysis, they determine the stability, load-bearing capacity, and settlement characteristics.
  • Project execution in a timely and cost-effective manner while maintaining the required safety standards. They coordinate with the construction team to ensure that the design specifications are met during the construction phase.
  • Guidance and supervision to junior team members, which includes mentoring, training, and monitoring their work quality and product delivery.
  • Technical support to other departments, such as the design and planning of tunnels, highways, and bridges that have geotechnical factors.
  • Identifying, assessing, and managing the inherent risks associated with geotechnical projects, including natural disasters like earthquakes, landslides, and floods.
  • Managing client relationships, including communicating project status, negotiating contracts, and providing technical support to the clients.
  • Establish and oversee quality control procedures to secure precision and dependability in every geotechnical analysis and report and ensure that industry standards and best practices are followed at every stage of the project.
  • Business development to grow our current client based on expand into emerging markets.

Requirements

  • A university degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering, with a major in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • At least 7 years of experience in Geotechnical Engineering, particularly in Linear Infrastructure, and have experience leading complex studies and managing large-scale projects.
  • Member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) and hold a P.Eng. designation in Ontario.
  • Proficiency in using geotechnical software for slope stability, drainage, and finite element analysis, as well as experience using drone technology for surveys and analyses.
  • Excellent ability to work in multidisciplinary engineering teams mainly comprised of Geotechnical and Geological Engineers, as well as environmental specialists.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with clients on work progress.
