The opportunity

The Wolak Learning Center is currently seeking Manchester campus-based student workers as Lead Peer Educators for on-campus academic support. Campus-based Lead Peer Educators will provide in-person academic assistance (with occasional virtual sessions) to students on an individual or small-group basis in specific content areas. Support areas include math, science, technology, engineering, game design/game arts, writing, liberal arts, business, and study skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and mentoring to other Peer Educators

  • Mentor new hires with onboarding, administrative support, tutoring strategies, feedback, review sessions, workshops, and additional guidance as needed

  • Assist coordinator(s) with discipline specific training, conduct class visits, class-embedded assignments, and other special projects as assigned

  • Assist with WLC office opening and closing responsibilities

  • Continue with student support roles as assigned, which may include drop-in tutoring, one-to-one tutoring, class-embedded or class-linked tutoring

  • Assist students academically to help them improve their knowledge in specific content areas and/or enhance their study skills through multiple modalities

  • Motivate students and help them develop confidence through positive feedback on areas of improvement

  • Attend mandatory All-Peer Educator training sessions

  • Arrive on-time and prepared for all scheduled sessions

  • Check office communications daily for assignments, announcements, and correspondence

  • Submit payroll hours and tracking forms promptly after each session

  • Support WLC annual goals and initiatives

  • Meet with coordinator on regular basis

  • Lead Peer Educators will be expected to utilize their own computer where appropriate for virtual tutoring sessions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one year of tutoring service at the Wolak Learning Center
  • Current enrollment as a part/full-time SNHU student
  • Students with Federal Work Study may be prioritized
  • Cumulative SNHU GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ease in relating to students from diverse backgrounds

Learning Outcomes:

  • As a result of working as a Lead Peer Educator, student workers will develop skills to assist tutees in specific content areas using multiple in-person modalities and develop specific differentiated tutoring strategies to meet various needs of learners based on learner preferences, strengths/weaknesses, background, or prior knowledge.
  • As a result of working as a Lead Peer Educator, student workers will learn effective tutoring strategies and skills.
  • As a result of working as a Lead Peer Educator, student workers will be able to explain, demonstrate, and incorporate study habits, motivation, and academic success strategies consistent with those emphasized during tutor training.
  • As a result of working as a Lead Peer Educator, student workers will incorporate effective communication skills into tutoring sessions and improve their own professional development skills for post-SNHU employment opportunities.

Work Hours:

Hours vary. Office Hours: Mondays-Thursdays: 9:00am-7:00pm, Fridays: 9:00am-4:30pm, closed: Saturdays and Sundays

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
