ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support WD's research, development, and manufacturing efforts in magnetic recording
- Support the development of the next generation of head and media technology, in addition to nanoscale FA and process/tool qualification for wafer and magnetic media manufacturing lines
- Work on TEM Lamellae prepared by FIB in our laboratory, and will spend most of their time collecting and analyzing TEM/STEM/EELS/EDS data, assembling reports, and communicating with the engineering teams that we support
- Join a team of eight microscopists and sample prep engineers developing the next generation of Western Digital's storage technology
Requirements
REQUIRED
- Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, or other related engineering discipline is required
- Experience in scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and image processing with Digital Micrograph software is required
SKILLS
- Hands-on experience with FIB sample preparation is a plus
- Knowledge of magnetic recording devices is desirable
