AECOM is searching for a Senior Environmental Engineer to join our team in Honolulu. The right candidate will be experienced in large groundwater / soil / sediment investigation and remediation projects, PFAS and munitions. Typical projects are on large, complex sites. The Sr Environmental Engineer will demonstrate a history in the development of remedial strategies and closure. The Sr Environmental Engineer will participate in client and agency meetings and teleconferences and should be highly skilled in technical presentations and advocacy discussions. Experience in Pacific Island settings, Hawaii, and basalt aquifers is a plus.

This position, is not open for remote working capacity. It is set up to be a local position to Honolulu, where you will be expected to be in the office at least 3 days per week.

The position requires strong multi-discipline technical and interpersonal skills and the ability to work productively both independently and collaboratively with engineers and scientists on a variety of remediation projects. Strong verbal and written communication skills are critical for this role.

Typical responsibilities for the Senior Environmental Engineer include:

  • Provide engineering and design support for multiple projects
  • Develop, coordinate, and provide field oversight of pre-design investigations.
  • Remedial technology design (water / wastewater) experience.
  • Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) related experience (project life-cycle):
  • Investigation (studies, environmental media sampling, drinking water evaluation, water quality evaluation, groundwater monitoring)
  • Remedial implementation (construction support, permitting, design clarifications)
  • Operations (evaluation of treatment performance, routine and non-routine maintenance activities, development of operation and maintenance plans)
  • Modeling and analysis of remediation performance and subsurface conditions.
  • Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team.
  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
  • Analyze data and prepare and review engineering related reports, plans, calculations, drawings, figures, and specifications using accepted engineering practices and procedures.
  • Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work by others.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  • Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.
  • Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
  • Prepares technical specification sections.
  • Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements
  • Interfacing and writing reports to clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Planning and managing environmental field work, including remediation systems operations, maintenance, and monitoring, groundwater sampling, fluid level gauging and oversight of subcontractors.
  • Construction quality assurance and quality control principles and practices.
  • Supporting project managers with tasks including budgeting, schedule, scope development and cost tracking.
  • Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, willingness to mentor junior staff, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative.
  • Ability to support business development with pre-proposal meetings, site visits, proposal writing, and reviews.
  • Demonstrate ability to build trusting working relationships with clients and colleagues.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or related discipline
  • 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • US Citizen, for access to DoD project sites
  • Ability to successfully obtain a DBIDs pass to gain access to any required federal military installation site locations
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in engineering, Geology Environmental Science, or related discipline.
  • Ability to travel at least 10% of the time
  • Experienced with CERCLA and environmental science principles, including site assessment and characterization, remediation, risk assessment, environmental chemistry, etc.
  • Candidate must possess current 40-Hour HAZWOPER and Supervisor certifications and be able to meet the medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical examination
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Professional registration
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint) and preparing technical reports.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced working in the State of Hawaii, Department of Health TGM, SCP, and local environmental regulation.
  • Extensive DOD and CLEAN Experience in Hawaii and Guam.
  • Proven project estimating experience, preferably environmental
  • Demonstrated experience with Client and Regulatory interactions
  • Excellent skills in written and spoken communication (including polished client presentation skills), organization, time, and management.
