🎓 About the role

GVI is looking for a Social Impact Director who will form part of GVI’s global impact team, which is focused on defining our research agendas and ethical stances, developing partnerships and measuring the impact of our programs. You’ll have end-to-end responsibility for increasing the impact of GVI’s community programs, partnering with regional leaders around the world to help advance social change through better evidence and insights.

At GVI we partner with hundreds of local organisations each year to make the world a better place. The areas of work this role will focus on include community development, womens empowerment, human rights, education and teaching, early childhood development, health and wellbeing, sports, construction, and micro-enterprise.

💻Results you’ll influence

  • Impact Measurement and Evaluation: Develop and implement theories of change and monitoring methodologies, establish and track key social impact metrics, and lead program evaluations for effectiveness and improvements.

  • Program Strategy and Development: Set clear standards for community programs, create program guides and training materials, and collaborate with teams to design and refine programs.

  • Project Design and Standards: Lead continuous improvement of project design and delivery standards, engage hubs in self-assessments, and monitor and evaluate design standards.

  • Impact and Research Capabilities: Coach hub staff to measure and improve program impact, supervise Research Fellows, and develop learning strategies for hubs to incorporate best practices.

  • Communication and Thought Leadership: Collect and support data for GVI’s annual impact report, enhance GVI's reputation as a social impact leader, and increase research reports and publications.

  • Grant and Proposal Writing: Identify and research grant opportunities, collaborate on grant writing and implementation, and oversee grant reporting. Provide support to GVI Foundation initiatives.

GVI is a platform for personal growth and transformation. Innovation and entrepreneurship are not only valued at GVI, they are essential to our organisation's success. This role demands a flexible mindset as the scope and focus of your work will shift to align with GVI’s strategic direction.

The job is for you if:

  • You are a self-starter, strategic thinker who rolls up your sleeves to get things done, and succeeds in creating clarity out of complexity to drive outcomes and results.

  • You enjoy working at lightning speed and tackling a wide variety of tasks as part of your day-to-day.

  • You are a relationship builder, a strong listener, and have enough operational experience to support regional leaders around the world.

  • You are the type of person who can quickly get your head around very different projects and contexts.

  • You bring a strong appreciation for local relevance and the strategic thinking to align local projects to global standards and processes.

  • You value collaboration and teamwork, are pragmatic, and possess impact management design and implementation experience.

✅What we're looking for

  • Masters degree in monitoring and evaluation or program evaluation is preferred.

  • 5 - 7 years of impact measurement and management, monitoring, and evaluation (both design and delivery)

  • Experience in community development and working with communities.

  • Ability to present information in an insightful and structured manner, both written and oral, including strong storytelling abilities.

  • Comfortable working with technology including Salesforce, G-Suite, Zoom, Trello, and similar.

🎉Benefits

We’re not interested in empty perks like having a coffee culture. We do have coffee – if you join our central team in Cape Town, you could find yourself roped into coffee and snack challenges if you visit the office, but you could just as easily be taking your morning coffee at Roots cafe, high in the mountains of northern Thailand if you work on a base. Here’s what our global team enjoys:

  • A highly collaborative, flat, and entrepreneurial organisation that provides the platform to make an impact on day one.

  • A global team that is uniquely talented, passionate and fun.

  • Engagement with stimulating community projects across various industries, geographies, and types of project partners.

  • Remote work (work-from-anywhere) and a culture supportive of employee work/life balance.

  • A deep commitment to improving diversity, equity, inclusion.

  • Competitive salary and career development opportunities.

  • Transparency – hear directly from the CEO consistently

  • We laugh a lot, genuinely care about and support each other, and do the occasional dress-up

  • Social fund

  • Training fund

  • Half days on the first Friday of each quarter
