Tunnel Construction Manager

We are looking for a Construction Manager/Resident Engineer to manage, oversee and coordinate all facets of the construction phase of heavy civil projects including mobilization, construction, and closeout.

Project Description:

The first assignment would be the Resident Engineer for a micro tunneling project of approximately 3,000 LF of a 96” storm drain system. As the site is adjacent to an active landfill, methane gas will be present in the vicinity of the micro tunneling.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Support construction safety implementation through understanding of safety requirements. Confirm construction contractor safety programs are submitted, approved, and followed by all parties involved in the project.

Implement schedule, cost, quality, communication, decision-making, and information tools and processes across the project.

Support program and project controls activities such as schedule control, cost control, change management, risk management, and reporting tools.

Lead project meetings with contractor and stakeholders.

Monitor the contract progress and make recommendation to client for contractor payments.

Work to build a cooperative partnership between client, contractors, and all stakeholders to ensure timely resolution of project issues and the overall success of the project.

Responsible for the enforcement of contract documents including plans and specifications.

Understanding of start-up and commissioning plans and identify associated resources as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

-Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or related degree

-Eight (8) years of experience performing construction management

-Five (5) years of experience in tunnel construction with an in-depth knowledge of micro tunneling or other trenchless tunneling methods

-2 to 3 years’ experience using micro tunneling technology during construction.

-At least one Storm Water tunneling project as a Resident Engineer during construction.

-Experience mitigating the dangers of tunneling through methane pockets.

Preferred Qualifications:

-OSHA

-Experience with tunnel construction in hard and soft rock conditions.

-Knowledge of large diameter tunnel construction – tunneling boring machine (TBM) or conventional tunnel excavation (drill and blast)

-Knowledge of pre-excavation probing and grouting

-Knowledge of tunnel shaft construction

-Mechanical, electrical and control systems installation and testing

-Live sewer diversion work or hydraulic diversion structure construction is a plus

-Experience working in/for transportation agencies, municipal agencies or utility infrastructure organizations

-Registered PE and/or CCM

$180,000 - $220,000 a year
