JOB OVERVIEW

The Operations Manager plays a pivotal role in advancing the growth and success of Tri-Mach Inc. by overseeing the efficient management of the Operations department. This entails guiding and supporting departmental Managers, Supervisors, and Employees, collaborating closely with the Senior Director of Operations on strategic planning initiatives, and fostering streamlined communication and quality processes across all departments. It is crucial that our Operations Manager promote a positive company image through safety, quality, consistency, and professionalism.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Recruitment, Hiring and Training

  • Work closely with Operations and Sales Directors to identifying skill and resource planning gaps.
  • Proactively work with Recruitment Manager and HR Business partner on department hiring and recruitment needs.
  • Participate in the interview and hiring process for operational roles.
  • Ensure consistent onboarding training and skill assessment on Tri-Mach Inc.'s quality practices for manufacturing.
  • Ensure working knowledge of all H&S Policies and equipment SOPs in the manufacturing area.
  • Maintain full compliance with applicable labor laws and mitigate associated risks through thorough project review and analysis.

Operational Performance Management

  • Ensure customer service is top priority by managing strong quality practices and meeting customer defined timelines and specifications.
  • Manage project budgets to prevent cost overruns and ensure adherence to defined timelines.
  • Coordinate production planning and scheduling across all departments to meet delivery targets.
  • Collaborate closely with Purchasing, Engineering, Project Management, and Sales to prioritize and adapt to upcoming demands and project deliveries
  • Oversee all shipping and receiving activities and monitor performance metrics.
  • Work with Director of Operations to define initiatives/ projects for quality improvements and design optimization for manufacturing efficiency**.** Assist in the implementation of new technology.
  • Work with all key stakeholders to prepare and run weekly production schedules to meet customer specified deliverables.
  • Run weekly production meeting, documenting and communicating changes as required.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and ensure repairs are done in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Ensure equipment is safe for operation and providing high quality products.
  • Provide input and data analytics to support the Capital Asset Planning process.
  • Work with purchasing on efficiencies and cost improvements, where applicable to improve bottom line without jeopardize our reputation for quality.
  • Assist purchasing in sourcing alternatives where possible.
  • Work closely with Engineering Manager and Manufacturing Engineer personnel to reduce warranty, rework and deficiencies.
  • Work with all key stakeholders to continuously develop and improve designs, and manufacturing methods to positively impact customer experience and improve bottom line results
  • Create SOP’s and manufacturing standards as required.
  • Provide training and development opportunities to strengthen leadership of Managers and Supervisors.

Team Performance & Communications

  • Promote a culture of team work; with a focus on health & safety, quality and training. Work the Managers and Supervisors on facilitating annual performance reviews.
  • Support the progressive discipline process to address performance issues.
  • Maintain retention KPI’s by fostering regular, positive communication with employees, providing mentorship, training and career progression.
  • Develop methods for enhanced employee communication within the department and company wide.
  • Respond promptly to employee inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Maintain a confidential and approachable demeanor to facilitate open discussions with employees.
  • Collaborate closely with HR to address and resolve employee-related concerns and performance issues.
  • Educate Manager’s, Supervisors, and employees on targets and continuous improvement projects.
  • Facilitate communication between Operations and Senior Director of Operations.
  • Ensure all equipment meets or exceeds safety requirements and review posted SOPs.
  • Collaborate and brainstorm with Operations Team, H&S and outside vendors for new ideas to improve safety and efficiency.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained per Preventive maintenance plan.
  • Improve data accuracy in the ERP system for informed decision-making.
  • Spear head semi annual inventory and investigate areas for improvement.
  • Maintain and report KPI’s as assigned by Senior Director of Operations.
  • Help enforce and cultivate a motivated culture aligned with “changes for the better” and creating an environment of mutual respect.
  • Always conduct oneself in a professional manner in alignment with Company values, including but not limited to language use, attire, and workmanship
  • In accordance with Company policy and relevant employment legislation, overtime and work outside of regular hours, and being on call may be required at the discretion of the Company
  • All other duties as required

Requirements

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree or Diploma an asset.
  • Knowledge of welding and custom fabrication an asset
  • Welding certification(s) and / or relevant education an asset
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory or management experience required.
  • Working knowledge of Solidworks 3D modeling and AutoCAD 2D.
  • Ability to work independently, make the difficult decisions and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking ability.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite with advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Applied knowledge of Design for Manufacturing techniques.
  • Familiarity with automated equipment and metal fabricating processes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Continuous Improvement techniques.
  • Experience with ERP or MRP systems required.
  • Financial planning and Industrial engineering experience preferred.
  • Millwrighting experience an asset.
  • Hands-on fabrication and machining knowledge an asset.
  • Self-motivated with excellent time management skills.
  • Safety-oriented mindset.
  • Strong team player with a commitment to shared success.
  • Ability to mulit-task and adapt to changing priorities and conditions.
  • Familiarity with quality programs and standards.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on achieving high standards.
  • Food and Pharmaceutical Manufacturing knowledge an asset.
  • Analytical mindset with a " results oriented attitude.
