Position Highlights:

Position Title: Senior Public Health Epidemiologist

Location: Hybrid

Position End Date: 4/30/25

Salary: $110,044 plus benefits

Overview:

The Senior Public Health Epidemiologist will directly support the Communicable Disease Senior Management Team and report to the Deputy Branch Head/Operations Unit Manager to assist in formulating strategies to manage problems, conducting varied literature reviews and directing the implementation of evidence-based interventions. They will collect, analyze, and interpret statistical data, and prepare epidemiologic and/or program reports; provide epidemiological and/or program data for consultation and assist in the development and coordination of plans to reduce the risk of negative health outcomes. Also, they may develop policies and procedures for new and existing disease control or other public health prevention programs and provide training, technical assistance and consultation regarding epidemiology and control of diseases or other health outcomes.

Qualifications:

· Working knowledge of epidemiologic principles, investigations, surveillance, study design, descriptive statistics, statistical analysis and interpretation of statistical data and scientific literature.

· Considerable knowledge of biostatistics including the use of statistical software and statistical programming languages.

· Considerable knowledge of computers, database design, management and manipulation.

· Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

· Master's degree in Epidemiology or closely related health field from an appropriately accredited institution.

· Two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities:

· Work with Epi Section/CD Branch leadership and unit managers to identify priorities and strategies to meet grant deliverables.

· Identify priorities and implement strategies to meet operational requirements.

· Collect, analyze and interpret statistical data and prepare epidemiologic and program/performance reports.

· Provide epidemiological and program data for consultation and assist in the development and coordination of plans to reduce the risk of negative health outcomes including death.

· Serve as a technical expert in the assigned area.

· Perform trend analysis and independent statistical, epidemiological and program/performance analysis.

· Assist with coordination, tracking, and reporting on progress in achieving the milestones within the Communicable Disease Branch Data Modernization plan

· Assist with developing and implementing the Communicable Disease Branch Workforce Development Plan

· May assist county health departments in formulating strategies to manage problems, conducting varied literature reviews and implementing evidence-based interventions.

· May assist with developing policies and procedures for new and existing disease control or other public health prevention programs on a limited basis or scope.

This role is involved in a dynamic public health program. As such, roles and responsibilities are subject to change as situations evolve. Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, in order to best support the State of North Carolina in their public health programming.

This position is currently a hybrid position. CDC Foundation retains the right to make adjustments to this as required.
