As an Industrial Engineering at Boston Dynamics, you will spearhead the implementation and continuous improvement of lean manufacturing processes in our development plant. As part of the Technical Operations team, every day you will work closely with cross-functional teams to lead initiatives to improve production processes, reduce waste, and increase overall efficiency. You will be a self-starter who can maintain focus on the big picture while managing the huge number of small details to drive consensus on a day-to-day basis and foster effective collaboration. **Day-to-day activities:

  • Capture and analyze production Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve production KPIs and enhance overall safety, quality, productivity, and profitability.
  • Develop and maintain capacity models to predict production output, identify bottlenecks, and develop solutions.
  • Own the plant layout and design optimal flow of material and information.
  • Interface with the manufacturing engineering team and manage the plantโ€™s technological roadmap, based on future state VSM and layout planning.
  • Develop and manage the industrial project timeline to ensure timely task completion.
  • Improve workflow by studying process flow charts, recommending modifications, and developing new procedures.
  • Conduct line balancing according to established takt time.
  • Perform time studies to establish manufacturing labor standards.
  • Collaborate with IT for data visualization (e.g., Tableau) and production floor dashboards.
  • Coach, drive, and lead lean behaviors, principles, and tools across operational processes.
  • Develop plant competency in a wide range of Industrial Engineering methods and Lean tools.
  • Develop material transfer and storage strategies to maximize space use and ensure efficient pick and delivery of materials.

**Desired skills:

  • BS or higher in an engineering technical field (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Physics, etc.) or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a product manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in lean manufacturing principles, process redesign, value stream maps, time studies, standardized work, material & information flows, leveled production and pull systems.
  • Ability to work in an ambiguous environment with rapid development cycles while prioritizing and managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Experience with CAD systems like AutoCAD, CATIA or equivalent.
  • Results orientation with a focus on delivering sustainable results.
  • Ability to accurately assess key business metrics and leverage lean to drive improvement.
  • Strong influence skills to inform, convince, and persuade others.
  • Impactful communication skills from the shop floor to the boardroom.

**Nice to haves:

  • Hands-on experience with early-stage products, particularly in robotics for the logistics industry.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification
  • Transparent in sharing critical information, speaking with candor, and contributing constructively.
  • Focused, quick learner who strategically prioritizes work and is committed.
  • Leadership abilities, including communication, decision-making, and collaboration.
  • Collaborative team orientation with the ability to know when to lead and when to follow.
  • Broad technical background and understanding of electro-mechanical systems.
