Elegen is a rising star in the synthetic biology industry. After recently closing a Series B funding round and signing a licensing and collaboration agreement with GSK, they are poised to disrupt the research and clinical synthetic DNA supply markets, delivering next-gen gene synthesis solutions from their patented cell-free synthesis and cloning technologies.

We are seeking an experienced, passionate business development lead for Europe to build and drive growth for Elegen’s transformative synthetic DNA products. You will be accountable for using your knowledge of Elegen’s offerings, competitor products, and the broader synthetic DNA market to develop and manage key relationships that result in the achievement of sales targets.

In addition to revolutionizing the market for synthetic DNA, you will be part of establishing a strong culture of mutual respect, integrity, and collaboration while working alongside some of Silicon Valley’s best. This is a unique opportunity to be the first European based hire for Elegen’ s commercial team.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrated experience building and executing a strategic plan to build an early-stage commercial presence in the market.
  • Meet your sales targets by leveraging your market knowledge, lead generation activities to support new customer acquisition and relationship management techniques for developing key accounts.
  • Analyze customer needs to identify current and new product fit and provide voice of customer feedback to help with the planning of Elegen’s product roadmap.
  • Maintain and expand the client database within Europe.
  • Focus on and develop new key accounts that have the capability to generate consistent volumes of business.
  • Ensure customer success and optimize the customer journey at Elegen for your customers
  • Provide ongoing input to management on sales budgets, forecasting, and sales strategies.
  • Participate in conferences to keep abreast of the latest developments in the European market.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites as needed to support and grow the business.

Essential Candidate Profile:

  • A degree in the life sciences or equivalent industry experience.
  • Proven sales/business development experience with a track record of achieving goals on a quarterly and annual basis.
  • In-depth knowledge of selling strategies and methods.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, relationship management and customer service skills.
  • Ability to set relevant goals and execute in a fast-moving startup environment.
  • Experience with managing a sales pipeline and translating that into a revenue forecast.
  • Strong working knowledge of the synthetic DNA market, how it is used across the biotech industry and the players in this market.
  • A self-starter eager to be part of building a commercial organization that will scale and grow.
  • An ability to foster teamwork across the growing commercial team.
  • Located in and authorized to work from the United Kingdom.
  • Ability to travel to the US for in person quarterly business review meetings

Preferred Experience:

  • A minimum of 6 years of sales and/or business development experience in life science industry
  • A network of industry contacts that align with Elegen target markets
  • Experience in a startup environment
  • Strong written and verbal English language skills
