Do you have a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills? If so, we have a fantastic opportunity for a Tug Engineer to join our team in Melbourne and Westernport on an un-rostered casual basis.

Due to the nature of the position being required to potentially relief at short notice, preference will be given to candidates who reside within two hours of the operation or are willing to relocate at their own expense.

What You Will Do
You will report to the Port Manager and the Tug Master onboard the vessel. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Operate and maintain all machinery (deck and engine) to operational standards at all times

  • Perform maintenance and repair of marine plant and equipment, including emergency maintenance tasks

  • Ensure the Planned Maintenance System is used correctly onboard and prepare maintenance and operational reports as required

  • Report operational defects to the Master and local management promptly

  • Adhere to Svitzer's policies and procedures, meeting statutory obligations including quality assurance and ISM procedures

  • Participate in safety, skills, and competency training relevant to your duties, including training other crew members

  • Assist other crew members on deck as needed

  • Undertake duties at dockings, including monitoring and supervising other personnel as appropriate

  • Monitor and review work health and safety standards and procedures, reporting as necessary

  • Engage in operational improvement exercises and collaborate with local management to enhance operational procedures

  • Ensure day-to-day compliance with relevant environmental regulations

What You Will Need To Succeed

To be successful, you will need to demonstrate:

  • A minimum Engineer Class 3 Near Coastal Certificate of Competency or higher
  • Current statements of attainment in Provide First Aid and Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • A current AMSA Medical applicable to your Certificate of Competency
  • A valid MSIC or 'Job Ready' MSIC Application (or proof of ability to obtain)
  • Prior towage experience is highly advantageous
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and build strong working relationships with external customers
  • Capability to perform under pressure, particularly in emergency situations
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills
  • The right to live and work in Australia
