Job Title: Sr. Director, Design, Apparel and Accessories - UGG

Reports to: Brand President

Location: Goleta, CA – Office-Hybrid

The Role

Under the direction of the Brand President, responsible for creating, leading and executing the strategic apparel and accessories design direction for UGG. Leverage omnichannel consumer insights, trend, brand and category strategies, and merchandising requirements to define each season’s creative product vision and visual vocabulary in support of UGG’s financial goals and strategic brand positioning.

Your Impact

STRATEGIC DESIGN MANAGEMENT

  • Define and oversee apparel product design strategy and creative process, from concept through product implementation in market
  • Lead seasonal concept, color and material design strategy across men’s and women’s apparel and accessories and partner with footwear design leaders to align across product types
  • Lead the design vision for category-right and consumer-right product and assortments.
  • Collaborate with cross functional partners in development and product management to identify industry best practices. Strategically partner with team to implement in apparel process.
  • Communicate, drive, and adhere to design performance measurement standards and KPIs; Work to improve efficiency, control costs, drive topline growth, and improve category profitability on a global level
  • Ensure product design initiatives meet category financial goals, profitability, and ROI standards, monitoring design cost investments and associated corporate expenditures.

BRAND & DESIGN LEADERSHIP

  • Lead Design POV for 3-year product strategy roadmap.
  • Work with UGG brand leadership to implement brand vision, design language and product direction.
  • Develop and create product design stories and themes, providing direction to partners, vendors, and development.
  • Work with Brand creative and DTC creative teams on visual presentation of Apparel category. Support creation and execution of seasonal apparel brand guides.
  • Lead, delegate, manage, and drive multiple design projects from conceptualization to finished product, adhering to calendar deadlines.
  • Partner with Innovation, Color & Materials teams to incorporate new concepts into seasonal themes and designs
  • Prepare, present, and delegate design projects, clearly communicating design vision
  • Ensure adherence to design deadlines to meet Critical Path (CP) dates; Consult with Product Operations, Product Development, and category product teams throughout product creation lifecycle

TEAM MANAGEMENT

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a group of talented and inspired product, color, and material designers
  • Foster a team culture that incorporates Deckers Brand Values
  • Instill and reinforce the highest standards for collaboration and teamwork within UGG and across the Deckers brand portfolio

Who You Are

  • Mastery of Microsoft Applications, MAC OS, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop, Romans CAD
  • Advance-level ability to prepare and present information and respond to questions from management, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Expert ability to create technical apparel drawings and demonstrate knowledge in current trends and the ability to interpret trends.
  • Strong understanding of and experience employing product design, construction techniques, and appropriate use of materials, including extensive knowledge and full understanding of apparel design, apparel trims, product design including materials, color, etc.
  • Complete knowledge of interdependency between design and development processes, and ability to drive collaboration between groups; ability to conceptualize and translate from 2D to 3D
  • Highly motivated team leader and self-starter; ability to motivate and inspire others
  • Excellent verbal, visual, and written communication skills and problem-solving abilities, Strong story-telling skills, with ability to create compelling design stories and themes
  • Experience working effectively in complex global organizations, satisfying the needs of diverse constituents, and often working under the pressure of competing and sometimes conflicting priorities.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, ability to lead and multi-task in a fast-paced environment, deadline and process driven, and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Advanced understanding of apparel design, construction techniques, and CAD capabilities, and understanding of color and materials
  • Ability to train and develop team members based on individual talents, and support internal career path and development
  • Experience mentoring and providing regular feedback to team members that foster skill development and performance improvement including tough conversations
  • Ability to prioritize, manage, and delegate work
  • Ability to deliver and receive constructive feedback on design and creative concepts

We’d love to hear from people with

  • Bachelor’s degree in design, apparel design, industrial design or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience; master’s in design or related field preferred
  • 15+ years related design experience within multiple categories for both women’s and men’s apparel.
  • 10+ years people leadership experience with multiple direct reports
  • Creating and executing fashion product strategies at scale, across multiple apparel classifications and genders
  • Fashion and Lifestyle design
  • Innovative concepts and commercially profitable end-products
  • Leading in a large, matrixed organization
  • Built, led, and developed high-performing diverse teams
  • Lead effective cross-functional partnership and collaboration
  • Senior stakeholder management

$265,000 - $275,000

The salary range posted reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this role in our Goleta, CA location. Individual pay will be determined by location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
