Job Description

Role Overview

The Design Engineer will join the design team to help with the development and execution of complex design projects and initiatives. This will include design, research, prototyping, engineering documentation, estimating and process improvement. They will also modify existing products or processes to increase efficiency or improve performance . They will work in the office, in a workshop and potentially onsite when needed to ensure best results.

  • Geographic Scope: NZ based, global install base of equipment (predominately US)

  • Act as a safety leader and put safety first in all responsibilities
  • Innovating new design solutions to service unmet market needs
  • Collaborates with Core R&D, and Film R&D, to innovate and integrate shared expertise in equipment design.
  • Designs or adapts equipment and components to ensure safety standards and customer expectations are met.
  • Design of complex machinery and functional solutions in the design project pipeline
  • Production of high quality technical documentation
  • Technical support for procurement, production and service teams as needed
  • Design for Manufacture: Researching whether the design will work and be cost – effective
  • Provides diagnosis and problem resolution related to equipment design
  • Provides information and writes procedures to create customer facing equipment manuals
  • Manages equipment version control to track iterative changes.
  • Provides equipment drawings and schematics
  • Supports factory acceptance testing and commissioning
  • Initiates, supports, and implements a cross section of different projects
  • Assessing the usability, environmental impact and safety of a design
  • Using computer aided design (CAD) software to create prototypes
  • Collecting and analyzing data from test on prototypes; modifying designs and retesting them
  • Communicating with supplier and partners regarding company’s requirements
  • Analyzing existing products in order to improve their efficiency and overall performance

What We Want From You

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or other relevant Engineering specialization)
  • 5+ years’ experience in mechanical design and 5+ years’ experience in a comparable Engineering/Process environment
  • Deep understanding of standard Engineering standards and processes
  • Extensive experience in Solidworks or similar 3D CAD program
  • Ability to problem solve complex problems efficiently and effectively
  • Intuitive nature: ability to be proactive in finding solutions or highlighting potential problems
  • Ability to work collaboratively and productively in team environments
  • Ability to design for manufacture and work with suppliers to optimise solutions
  • Ability to facilitate the design and testing of prototypes
  • Ability to maintain an optimistic attitude to help promote a constructive environment
