The successful candidate will join a strong product/process engineering team and be responsible for the qualification and introduction into manufacturing of all fiber optoical sub-systems and electro mechanical components for all new optical platform designs

• A significant part of the role involves project management, and close partnership with design, supply chain extended teams, and having a leadership role with contract manufacturers for all electro mechanical components .
• The role requires a strong quality focus by investigating issues, proposing solutions and their implementation into production sites.
• The role involves a cost reduction aspect by refining assembly processes ( ie hard tooling ), qualifying new components and reviewing existing design as well as identifying opportunities for continuous quality and cost efficiency improvements.

Specific Responsibilities

• Design review inputs - technical assessments and recommendations for all new mechanical designs.
• Perform all manufacturability assessments DFM, milestones reviews and recommendations for design improvement for all mechanical designs used on circuit packs
• First piece evaluation ( FPE) build ownership and approval
• Material Supply - Develop and implement an effective supply chain in the support of NPI development activities
• Provides product technical support of initial NPI introduction, Volume Production and product enhancement/re-spin through technical assessments and change process
• Detailed build management –communication of all design proto-type specific information to the relevant suppliers.
• Identify and communicate mechanical design changes to EMS.

Required Skills

• Fiber Optical assy experience, specifically splicing an asset
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
• Leadership skills to manage EMS Manufacturer & suppliers
• Team Player
• Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously as flexibility is paramount
• Speaking & writing: Fluent English, French

Required Experience

• Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 5-8 years of experience related to manufacturing processes & New Product Introduction of mechanical sub-systems
• Experience in DFM assessment ( Design for manufacturing ), and verification on processes used for mechanical assys
• A definite asset is application knowledge processes used to manufacture aspects of our mechanical products . Some examples would include sheet metal designs, plastic injection molded components, heat sinks, machined to casted conversions, rapid prototype selections ( ie FDM ) etc.
• Knowledge of PC applications: ProEng, Agile, MS Office
• Experience in working with an organization involved in the design of Electro-Optic transmission and communication systems would be an asset.
