About the role:

At Anthropic, the Security Engineering team's mission is to safeguard our AI systems and maintain the trust of our users and society at large. We're hiring an Engineering Manager to lead a Security Engineering team in executing across critical initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain infrastructure related to hardening systems against attacks against frontier AI models
• Identify and assess systematic risk, and translate them into actionable tasks for the organization
• Shape policies and procedures to embed security into product design, infrastructure, and employee practices
• Lead one of our growing security engineering teams to successfully deliver on its goals
• Develop and track metrics to ensure security objectives are being met
• Represent the security engineering team and build credibility for Anthropic's security posture
• Collaborate with product, research, and infrastructure teams to integrate secure-by-default into their workflows and processes
• Independently own and drive multiple workstreams; this includes all planning and execution as well as managing partnerships with other teams
• Establish and drive adoption of design and coding best practices within your team
• Define, evangelize, and drive security engineering best practices and improvements across organizational boundaries
• Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of Anthropic's engineering management team
• Manage and grow a team of engineers to deliver high-impact projects on schedule with high quality
• Coach, mentor, and provide career development guidance to your direct reports, helping them set and achieve their professional goals
• Partner with our recruiting team to attract, hire, and retain top security talent

You may be a good fit if you:

• Have 4-6 years of front line management experience
• Have a track record of leading productive security engineering teams
• Have hands-on software engineering experience as an IC prior to moving into management
• Have a deep understanding of security best practices, threat modeling, and risk assessment methodologies

Strong candidates may also:

• Have experience with AI/ML security, including adversarial attacks and defenses
• Familiarity with AI safety concepts and frameworks
• Have low ego and bring a high degree of empathy
• Have a passion for building diverse and inclusive teams
• Encourage a healthy work environment that's both supportive and challenging
• Be excited to help engineers develop new skills and advance in their careers
• Be clear and persuasive in writing and in person
• Lead by example, by setting the right context, and by helping your team do their best work

The expected salary range for this position is:

Annual Salary:

$405,000—$405,000 USD

Logistics

Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.

Compensation and Benefits*

Anthropic’s compensation package consists of three elements: salary, equity, and benefits. We are committed to pay fairness and aim for these three elements collectively to be highly competitive with market rates.

Equity - For eligible roles, equity will be a major component of the total compensation. We aim to offer higher-than-average equity compensation for a company of our size, and communicate equity amounts at the time of offer issuance.
