About Marvell
Marvell’s semiconductor solutions are the essential building blocks of the data infrastructure that connects our world. Across enterprise, cloud and AI, automotive, and carrier architectures, our innovative technology is enabling new possibilities.
At Marvell, you can affect the arc of individual lives, lift the trajectory of entire industries, and fuel the transformative potential of tomorrow. For those looking to make their mark on purposeful and enduring innovation, above and beyond fleeting trends, Marvell is a place to thrive, learn, and lead.
Your Team, Your Impact
Marvell's Optical PHY team develops advanced ultra-high-speed broadband transceivers. These advanced transceivers consist of broadband equalization circuitries (CTLE, FFE, and DFE), ultra high-speed data converters (ADCs and DACs), and high performance (very high frequency and very low jitter) clock generation and clock distribution. Our innovative approaches have resulted in the company’s products being first to market in many key areas, including optoelectronics and DSP-based transceivers providing the most advanced chips and subsystems solutions to address today and future multi-100Gig interconnect requirements for the ever-increasing demand of higher data rates.
What You Can Expect
As an Intern HW Engineer for the Communication System Hardware team in Pavia, Italy, you will join a growing team responsible for the hardware and software algorithms needed to characterize and validate the physical layer of high-frequency SerDes systems, optical modules, DSP-based communication systems, and other key chips developed by the company. You will support the validation team in defining the testing architecture, support the HW EVB needs, validation plans, and the development team during the debug phase. Specific projects are available, focusing on the following areas:
- Low-level control board drivers and implementation.
- Perform validation of specific high-frequency analog blocks.
- Design of validation boards companion PCB (control-power).
- Development of validation SW infrastructure components (Data Management/ GUI / Instruments automation).
- Design of high-frequency PCB.
The key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supported the design team in hardware and software debugging.
- Coding and set up of manual and automatic characterization routines.
- Support in validation of hardware blocks (PLL, ADC, DAC, etc.).
- Support the design, simulation, and debugging of characterization and evaluation boards.
- Detailed experimental verification (HW and SW level) and characterization reports.
- Involved in architecting and delivering demos to technology capability.
- Work with the team to face direct problems coming from customer applications.
- Work with IP teams and customers to ensure proper usage of the Marvell SerDes for various applications and protocols.
You will be able to develop the following skills throughout your internship:
- High-frequency lab equipment and their interfaces (sampling scopes, signal generators, PNA, Spectru, BERT).
- Lab automation and automation scripts.
- Data logging and data tools for validation reports.
- SerDes architecture.
- SerDes programming and proper use in multiple use cases.
- Firmware main routines for SerDes testing.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related fields.
- Must be a last-year master's student of Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics, Mathematics, Physics, or a similar technical field, enrolled at an accredited Italian university, or a recent (graduated in the last 12 months) master's graduate.
- Experience in Perl, Python, and C/C++.
