The E/I Mechanic supports the pulp and paper manufacturing equipment. The position is a key resource to ensuring our manufacturing operations run efficiently. Additionally, the position requires Electrician skills to ensure all electrical and instrumentation work meets State and Federal Code requirements. Working closely with operations, the E/I Mechanic is responsible for all electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic hardware and software aspects of assigned tasks for electrical / control system components including electronic components, VFDs, motors, solenoids, limit switches, PLC I/O modules, sensors, transmitters, etc. The position will also provide planning, procurement, and documentation activities for the enhancement of electrical and instrumentation maintenance within the facility by working as a team with the Supervisors, Planners, and Operations. In addition, the position will share knowledge with other technicians for maintaining and troubleshooting PLCs, instrumentation, and controls. The E/I Mechanic is a vital resource for the manufacturing machinery preventative and predictive maintenance programs. Technicians are required to strictly adhere to all safety and compliance guidelines the company sets forth.

Accountabilities

  • Apply all applicable codes, regulations, reliability strategies, corporate and OEM standards to the tasks of Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) jobs;
  • Provide maintenance and troubleshooting of I&E related equipment and process problems mill wide, including PLCs, AC&DC drives, analog and digital field instrumentation, and/or DCS equipment;
  • Responsibilities may also include installation, start-up, programming, calibrating and tuning of these systems as well as applying the most current technology and practices for predictive, preventive, and correcting maintenance, including root cause analysis and process troubleshooting;
  • Follow Site Electrical Safety Policy (NFPA 70E) when performing diagnostics and repairs;
  • Use all types of electronic test equipment to troubleshoot electrical problems, including: multimeters, meggers, amp meters, PLC/Drive troubleshooting software, etc.;
  • Proactive in reducing production waste and achieve product quality goals through quality maintenance program;
  • Contact vendors and manufacturers as needed for support in resolving issues;
  • Assist the Reliability group as a maintenance/subject matter expert in the reliability centered maintenance strategies and assist with implementing those strategies;
  • Practices good housekeeping and safety measures;
  • Help drive Pixelle’s safety culture to a higher level.

Requirements

Basic Requirements

· High School Diploma or GED;

· Two (2) year technical degree or five (5) years industrial work experience in relevant electrical field; Journeyman status preferred;

· WorkKeys Assessment (Reading, Locating information & Math);

· Ability to successfully pass written, interactive hands-on testing;

· Must be computer literate and possess professional communication skills;

· Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision;

· Ability to lift up to 50lbs., climb ladders and stairs, and stand for continuous periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation;

· Must be able and willing to work any shift, overtime, weekends and holidays when required;

· Must be able to read electrical and maintenance schematics / blueprints;

· Must be able and willing to work in a high-volume manufacturing plant environment, in greasy, noisy, non-air conditioned areas (hot, humid, wet, dusty);

· Must be able and willing to work safely, including wearing and using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Preferred Requirements

  • Electrical and Instrumentation maintenance experience in a pulp and paper mill;
  • Programmable Logic Controller programming, debugging, troubleshooting and maintenance;
  • Allen Bradley SLC500, PLC 5, Controllogix, and related RSLogix software experience;
  • Familiarity with many aspects of systems integration (including PLC, HMI, instrumentation, networking protocols, communication, power distribution);
  • Familiarity with Reliance DC drives, and Allen Bradley Powerflex drives;
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley remote I/O, point I/O, Flex I/O etc.;
  • Familiarity with DCS systems; preferably DeltaV, Provox or Foxboro;
  • Proficient with computer operating systems, networks and electronic information handling, Microsoft Office.
