As the Head of Data Platform Engineering, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the data infrastructure and pipelines that support the company's data-driven products and services. You will also collaborate with Product and Security leaders on data governance, quality, and security standards, as well as the data analytics and reporting capabilities. You will work closely with the senior leadership and product managers to align the data strategy with the business goals and deliver value to the customers and stakeholders.

This is a unique opportunity: Our vision for a data platform is unparalled in the financial services industry: we are building one of the most modern platforms there is which will bring substantial long-term value directly to our customers and internal stakeholders. In this role, you will hit the ground running and become responsible for the existing 20+ team of contractors whilst building your own team with data talent from scratch. Together with the team, you will build a state-of-the-art data platform, implement robust data governance, and foster a data-driven culture. These initiatives will collectively support the launch of a new line of data products for GSCF. We are looking for a seasoned data leader who understands the financial services industry, need for speed and accuracy. Someone who likes building and leading highly autonomous and strongly aligned teams in an international context, feels comfortable and confident about working at executive level and acts as role model when it comes to company values and people management.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, manage, and mentor a team of data engineers, architects, and analysts, and foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.

  • Partner with Product Team to define and execute the data engineering roadmap, vision, and architecture, and ensure alignment with the company's strategic objectives and priorities.

  • Design, build, and optimize scalable, reliable, and secure data pipelines and platforms using cloud technologies, big data tools, and best practices.

  • Manage the data ingestion, integration, transformation, and storage processes from various internal and external sources, and ensure data quality, consistency, and availability.

  • Implement and enforce data governance, security, and compliance policies and procedures, and ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations.

  • Collaborate with the product managers and business stakeholders to understand the data needs and requirements that provide externally facing data products and insights that support decision making and innovation.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize the performance and efficiency of the data systems and processes, and resolve any data issues or challenges.

  • Research and evaluate new data technologies, trends, and best practices, and recommend and implement improvements and enhancements.

  • Introduce machine learning and AI capabilities into the data platform.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.

  • 8+ years of leadership experience in data engineering, data architecture, data warehousing, or related roles, preferably in the financial services industry.

  • Expertise in cloud technologies, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, and big data tools, such as Snowflake, Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, Hive, or Presto.

  • Proficiency in SQL and one or more programming languages, such as Python, Java, Scala, or R.

  • Strong knowledge of data modeling, data structures, data quality, and data security principles and practices.

  • Experience in leading and managing data teams, projects, and initiatives, and delivering data solutions that meet the business needs and expectations.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills, and ability to translate data into actionable insights and recommendations.

  • Experience managing in an Agile development environment with upstream and downstream system interfaces – including external banking and financial services data exchange.
