POSITION SUMMARY

Sony Corporation of America (SCA)is seeking a results-oriented Senior Director of Consolidated Tax Reporting and Compliance. This individual will be responsible for the consolidation of Sony Corporation of America and several hundred domestic and foreign affiliates’ IFRS tax provision and ensuring that Sony is compliant with Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404. In addition, this individual will also be responsible for the preparation of Sony Corporation of America and affiliates consolidated Federal income tax return. This position will also involve assisting in analysis of various global business issues for Sony Group Corporation in Japan.

The position will report to the Vice President, Tax Reporting and Compliance, SCA, in a role with high impact and visibility to senior management.

This position will be on a Hybrid schedule with 3-4 days per week in the NYC office.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review, analyze and consolidate income tax provisions including tax reserves into the overall quarterly and annual tax provision; handle consolidation and reconciliation of deferred tax assets and liabilities; manage and consolidate quarterly updates, forecasts and budgets of pre-tax income/income tax provision for consolidated group.
  • Coordinate quarterly and annual provision review with external auditors and internal risk management.
  • Lead a team of 9 people in the Domestic group; train, supervise and guide the team in various compliance issues including US tax technical analysis and educate finance teams on US tax reporting issues.
  • Monitor US tax developments and work closely with Senior tax leaders on interpreting proposed and/or new tax legislation, Treasury regulations and rulings. Model and present the impact of such changes for US tax compliance and financial reporting purposes.
  • Manage special projects such as R&D tax credit studies.
  • Analyze existing tax reporting/compliance processes and recommend improvements to facilitate process efficiencies.
  • Implement and manage automated processes/solutions.
  • Support tax controversy teams with Domestic tax issues.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION

Your qualifications and experience should include:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Finance is required.
  • Master’s Degree in Tax, Accounting or JD strongly preferred.
  • Must have at least 15 years experience in US tax for large corporate taxpayers including substantial tax accounting and compliance experience
  • Deep knowledge of tax provision both from a domestic and an international perspective including uncertain tax positions. Knowledge of IFRS a plus
  • Significant experience with managing US tax compliance obligations, including analyzing and documenting tax positions
  • Strong project management, planning, and organizational skills including the ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated experience leading a tax department for at least 5 years and work well in a diverse multicultural environment.
  • Experience with implementation and management of technology based solutions including tax software tools
  • Must have the ability to coordinate and work with cross function/business segment teams.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $285,000 to $300,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
