The Institute of State and Regional Affairs at Penn State Harrisburg (ISRA) invites applications for the position of Industry Relations Coordinator. ISRA unites Penn State faculty and professional staff to conduct research and provide data services in public policy, community planning, information management, and evaluation. Annually, it secures $3-$4 in sponsored research funding from state, federal, philanthropic, and private sponsors. In this role, the Industry Relations Coordinator will develop and implement comprehensive strategies to enhance ISRA’s visibility and engagement across a spectrum of stakeholders, including community groups, government entities, industry leaders, and business organizations. Central duties involve providing operational support for interdisciplinary research, which includes coordinating activities, managing communications, and building partnerships. This position supports the University's educational, research, and community engagement goals, demanding a dynamic combination of advanced relationship management and community outreach skills.

Job Description:

  • Develop relationship management strategies to identify and pursue research opportunities and promote the University’s resources and services.
  • Engage industry partners through tradeshows, workshops, and hosted events, connecting industry experts with University resources to create mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Recruit and engage companies and entrepreneurs for funding and support from University-affiliated programs; design responsive partnership models and develop opportunity pipelines.
  • Conduct benchmarking research to understand industry trends and market potentials; identify, assess, and develop new research opportunities and partnerships to support economic development and community initiatives; translate these insights into expansion opportunities; advise on new projects and initiatives.
  • Monitor and analyze external policies and legislation, using this knowledge to adapt engagement strategies to align with the University’s strategic goals in innovation and technology
  • Actively pursue and maintain strategic relationships, managing stakeholder engagements, including contract negotiations, project commercialization, and grant administration to benefit the University’s research and outreach objectives.
  • Provide expert consultation in specific research domains such as performance evaluations, marketing strategies, and economic development to foster external collaborations and enhance University research.
  • Act as the primary liaison with external entities, including community leaders, government officials, advisory boards, corporations, community groups, and non-profit organizations, and represent the University at various forums and events, effectively communicating its achievements, capabilities, and future directions.
  • Create and deliver presentations to engage potential partners, secure funding through effective grant writing, and develop and deliver educational content for clients.

Typical Experience:

  • Demonstrated success in relationship management, strategic partnership development, and community engagement.
  • Deep knowledge of public policy, government relations, and the legislative environment.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to forge and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Skilled in strategy development and implementation, with a track record of driving projects to successful completion.
  • Experience in project management, industry and community relations, business development, strategic planning, digital marketing, or related fields, ideally within the Higher Education sector.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex challenges, offer innovative solutions, and adapt to changing market conditions.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in project management, business management, digital marketing, or a related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders and community groups to support interdisciplinary research related to Pennsylvania’s Latino population.

Position Level and Requirements:

This position will be filled as an Advanced or Senior Professional. The typical requirements for an Advanced Professional include a bachelor’s degree or higher with 3+ years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The typical requirements for a Senior Professional include a master's degree or higher with 6+ years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$68,200.00 - $129,500.00
