JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Part-Time Lecturer in Media Production and Public Humanities

The Humanities Institute in the College of the Liberal Arts at Penn State seeks applicants for a part-time instructor position. Successful applicants will have teaching and/or professional experience in film/video production, editing, and sound production. Responsibilities will include co-instruction in courses associated with the Humanities Institute’s “Public Humanities Fellows Program”. This program aims to train students in research and production of publicly accessible media centering on humanities topics and related social issues. The successful applicant will co-teach two undergraduate courses: the Introduction to Public Humanities in the fall and the Public Humanities Capstone course in the spring. In both cases, the hired person will partner with their co-instructor (who is a public humanities scholar) and will be responsible for the media production side of the courses. These are one semester, non-tenure track appointments with the possibility of reappointment.

A master’s degree or appropriate terminal degree, documentary film-making and classroom teaching experience are preferred.

Applicants should submit a 1) letter of application, 2) resume/CV, 3) names and contact information for two references and 4) evidence of teaching effectiveness (which may include teaching evaluations, sample syllabi, and/or teaching philosophy statement) or its equivalent (such as running training sessions, etc.).

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until a qualified candidate is identified. Part-time teaching is for the 2024-2025 Academic Year and all courses are held in-person. There is no option for online synchronous or asynchronous instruction.
