Overall purpose and responsibilities of the role:

Reporting to the Assistant Controller your role as the Cost Accountant is pivotal in supporting the Finance Team. You will help deliver reporting and analysis to support key decision making across all companies. You will have the opportunity to develop and maintain systems used in the financial planning process and will assist with the preparation of Financials, Budgets, and Year End working papers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Main Job Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Update and maintain standard costs and rate models.
  • Conduct regular analysis of production variances, planned material prices, standard production activity rates and overhead allocation rates. Prepare proposed updates with input from the Operations and Procurement Team.
  • Analyze cost accounting data and assist with cycle count/physical inventories.
  • Audit work orders from the production floor for manufacturing and kitting assembly.
  • Daily Inventory uploads and raising the inventory issues within the company to seek possible resolution.
  • Monitoring of inventory transactions posted by Supply chain to ensure proper Inventory and GL impact.
  • Ensuring attachment of proper documentation with the posted transactions in the Inventory and purchase module.
  • Reconciliation of Month end Inventory reports per SKU.
  • Assist in Conducting detailed analysis of production costs, including raw materials, labor, and overhead expenses. Identify cost drivers and evaluate cost-saving opportunities.
  • Monitor inventory levels and valuation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. Analyze inventory turnover rates and recommend strategies to optimize inventory levels and minimize carrying costs.
  • Determine the cost of producing goods or services, considering direct and indirect costs. Collaborate with production teams to accurately allocate costs and establish pricing strategies.
  • Implement cost control measures to mitigate cost overruns and improve operational efficiency. Identify areas of inefficiency and recommend process improvements to reduce costs.
  • Prepare and analyze cost-related financial reports, such as cost of goods sold (COGS), manufacturing variances, and cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis. Present findings to management and provide recommendations for cost optimization.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements related to cost accounting. Assist in internal and external audits by providing relevant cost data and documentation.
  • Collaborate with departments across the organization, including finance, production, procurement, and sales, to gather cost-related information and support business objectives.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements in cost accounting. Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement and recommend implementation strategies.
  • Assist in month-end closing, prepare journal entries and assist with the balancing of inventory ending quantities.
  • Assist in management of the costing process for the Group of Companies

Main Accountabilities:

  • Supervise the Cost Accountant and Senior Financial Analyst Roles.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reporting package.
  • Oversee the month end Inventory process.
  • Assist in preparation of Budget and Year End Working papers.
  • Assist in process improvement projects and new system implementations.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Post-Secondary Education in Accounting
  • Certified Professional Accounting (CPA) designation or working towards one.
  • Proven experience in cost accounting or related field, preferably in manufacturing or production environment.
  • Proficiency in cost accounting methodologies, financial analysis tools, and ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and relevant accounting standards.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Proven experience as Assistant Controller or other similar position
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP and ASPE
  • Excellent knowledge of Accounting and Financial processes (Budgeting, Month End Close, Variance Analysis, Year End Working Paper files)
  • Communication with business partners
  • Excellent knowledge of Internal controls and Compliance
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, v-look ups) and working knowledge of PowerPoint and Word
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work hard and calmly under pressure to achieve deadlines.
  • Well, organized with ability to prioritize.

Emp type: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm Pacific Time (11:30pm to 8:30am MNL)
