Why this role matters

The Salvation Army Melbourne Project 614 program consists of a team of staff and volunteers based in the City of Melbourne. The program offers crisis support and intervention, information, practical assistance and importantly, ongoing support for people in crisis.

The Twilight Cafe's primary purpose is about building relationships and addressing social inclusion. The Café sees a range of different people accessing the service, including people who suffer from drug and alcohol addictions, mental health and general health issues, homelessness, living in boarding houses and rooming houses, asylum seekers and even international students. The Café is open to everyone over the age of 18 and is there to provide support and a sense of community to anyone in need.

About the role

We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Twilight Café & Outreach Worker.

Reporting to the Twilight Cafe Coordinator, this is a fixed term (until June 2025), part-time position (5 nights a week, Mon - Fri, 5pm to 10pm) based in Melbourne, VIC. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 3.

You will successfully

  • Provide front of house assistance to Cafe attendees.
  • Manage client behaviour effectively and appropriately to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all attendees.
  • Provide day to day support for volunteer activities.
  • Provide practical information and referrals for supports including employment, health, housing and legal.
  • Outreach in pairs by foot and by vehicle in The City of Melbourne to people experiencing homelessness.

You will have

  • A tertiary qualification in community services/social work and/or related disciplines is desirable.
  • A current and valid employee Victorian Working with Children Check.
  • Experience within community services is desirable.
