Oracle DBA Engineer

This role has been designed as ‘Hybrid’ with an expectation that you will work on average 2-3 days per week from an HPE office.

What you’ll do:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Oracle DBA (L3) with a strong background in performance tuning to join our dynamic IT team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, availability, and reliability of our Oracle database systems. This role requires in-depth knowledge of Oracle databases, advanced performance tuning techniques, and the ability to lead complex database projects.

Database Management:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Oracle database systems (versions 11g, 12c, 19c, etc.).
  • Monitor database performance and implement changes to improve efficiency and performance.
  • Perform database tuning, query optimization, and indexing to ensure high performance.

Performance Tuning:

  • Analyze and resolve complex performance issues at the database, application, and system levels.
  • Conduct performance testing and benchmarking, identifying bottlenecks and recommending solutions.
  • Use tools such as AWR, ASH, ADDM, and OEM to diagnose performance problems.

Backup and Recovery:

  • Develop and implement robust backup and recovery strategies using RMAN.
  • Ensure data integrity and availability through regular backups and disaster recovery planning.

Security Management:

  • Implement and manage database security policies and procedures.
  • Perform regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.

Database Design and Development:

  • Collaborate with development teams to design and implement database solutions.
  • Review and optimize SQL code, stored procedures, and database schemas.

Project Leadership:

  • Lead database-related projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to best practices.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior DBAs and development teams.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Generate regular performance reports and present findings to management.

What you need to bring:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as an Oracle DBA, with at least 3 years in a senior role.
  • Proven experience in performance tuning and optimization of large-scale Oracle databases.

Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in Oracle database architecture, administration, and performance tuning.
  • Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, and shell scripting.
  • Experience with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, ASM, and GoldenGate.
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix operating systems.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based database solutions (e.g., Oracle Cloud, AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database) is a plus.
