Head of Wind Development

Head of Wind Origination and Development for a UK leader in renewable energy, to join their UK Onshore Wind division.

Renewable Connections Developments Limited (“RCD” or the Company) is a development business focused on solar, wind and battery storage projects in the United Kingdom. We deliver highly innovative renewable energy developments in strategic locations countrywide, as well as onsite energy solutions to energy intensive industries.

Purpose of the Role:

The Company is currently seeking a Head of Wind Development. In this role, the successful candidate will:

• Take a leading role in developing wind projects from early-stage development to FID.
• Lead the project through basic concept engineering / FEED, grid connections, partnership development, regulatory approval, consenting and supply chain development.
• Work with the senior leadership of the company and colleagues to present the business case to secure FID and then drive the projects during the execution phase.

The ideal candidate will have worked for a wind developer on similar projects and have a successful track record developing large onshore wind in a commercial or project leadership role.

Key responsibilities:

• Take the lead in developing onshore wind projects, considering prefeasibility site studies, wind resource mapping, design, modelling, equipment supply, regulatory frameworks, consenting and partnership development.
• Drive project development activity to achieve objectives from concept design to final investment decision, leading all aspects including cable route planning, grid connection approval, permitting, procurement, and contracting for onshore wind projects.
• Build and nurture strategic relationships with key stakeholders including project partners, external consultancies, OEMS / EPCS in the supply chain, and internal stakeholders.
• Own full responsibility for the project, manage project budgets and timelines to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
• Proactively identify and mitigate risks

Requirements:

• Proven track record, as project manager, successfully leading and developing onshore wind.
• Master’s or Bachelor's degree in Renewable Energy, Environmental Science, or specialized engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil), advantageous.
• Previous work experience working for a wind developer, TSO or Owners Engineer in a leadership role.
• Previous experience leading projects from early stage development to FID phase.
• Interest or knowledge of multi-purpose interconnectors
• At least generalist knowledge of transmission packages in development.
• Strong awareness of OPEX, CAPEX, LCOE, contracting and other commercial topics.
• Exceptional communication skills in order to communicate at all levels, internal stake holders and motivate multi-disciplinary teams.
• Strong stakeholder management experience across complex organisations
• Results-driven team player with ability to deliver deadlines in a dynamic and ambiguous industry environment.
• Willing to travel frequently as required.
