Maintenance Sanitation Driver

The Sanitation Driver is responsible for providing trash collection services, the operation and maintenance of PCC's garbage collection trucks (trash trucks), and the placement and emptying of dumpsters on and around PCC properties. The Driver performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections and preventive maintenance of sanitation vehicles, works with student workers and graduate assistants, and is licensed to operate commercial vehicles (sanitation trucks) in Florida.

Provide Trash Collection Services

Operate PCC trash trucks to collect trash from dumpsters on and around the PCC and PCA properties. Evaluate, establish, and maintain appropriate dumpster pick-up times and locations during scheduled days, with flexibility according to special events and specific requests. Be available for special event pick-ups. Assist with dumpster placements and removal from buildings as needed. Transport collected trash to either the local transfer station or Escambia County's Beulah landfill.

Ensure Safe Operation of Vehicles and Equipment

Possess and maintain a current Florida "Class B" CDL driver's license. Complete all safety and equipment training. Follow all highway commercial vehicle regulations when driving. Perform, document, and report on daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Assist other part-time drivers with learning specific tasks and safety items related to driving, operating, emptying, and cleaning of trash trucks.

Maintain Trash Collection Vehicles and Equipment

Keep trash trucks, sanitation support vehicles, and sanitation trailers clean to appropriately represent PCC. Keep vehicle interiors clean, sanitized, and free of clutter. Lubricate specific parts as per manufacturer's instruction and schedules; notify the Sanitation Supervisor and PCC Auto Shop of mechanical or cosmetic problems or accidents; perform basic preventative maintenance inspection and procedures on equipment. (i.e., fluid levels, lights, tire pressures and wipers)

Maintain Trash Collection Areas

Maintain dumpsters and collection receptacles; order and install replacement dumpsters and dumpster lids as needed. Keep dumpsters and surrounding areas clean and neat in appearance, ensure cleanliness and order in trash chutes, dumpster sites, and trash truck service area.

HS (Required)

Work Experience

1+ years of CDL driving, 2+ years safe driving

Physical Requirements and Skills

Ability to drive a garbage truck in various weather conditions, Ability to lift 30+ pounds, Bend body and knees as needed, Ladders, Reach above the head
