The Opportunity

SAIT’s School of Business is recruiting for a Teaching and Learning Specialist. Reporting to the Associate Dean - Operational Excellence, you provide onboarding, training, consultation, and coaching to faculty within the School of Business to support student success, pedagogical best practices and SAIT quality standards.

You support Academic Chairs in advancing program goals and demonstrate creativity and vision in executing school initiatives in effective and sustainable ways. In collaboration with staff and faculty, you provide project management and instructional design planning and support for online and on-campus deliveries. You liaise with leaders, staff, and faculty, building and maintaining strong, productive internal SAIT relationships.

The demands of this position include flexibility combined with strong communication, team-building, conflict resolution, and project management skills.

The Role

  • Coaching and Training (60%)
  • Provide proactive and responsive coaching and mentorship to faculty through activities including:

o Coordinating and leading new faculty orientation sessions, including a minimum of three group sessions per year and individual sessions as needed,

o Advising on research-informed pedagogy, enabling tools and technology, and classroom management best practices, and

o Providing information about and referral to relevant support services in other departments.

  • Support engagement, development, and continuous improvement amongst faculty through activities including:

o Writing and distributing regular and timely communications to faculty highlighting key activities, deadlines, and upcoming internal professional development or training opportunities,

o Providing technical training on SAIT’s learning management system, Brightspace, reinforcing best practices and minimum usage expectations,

o Consulting with faculty on creative ways in which Brightspace or other technology can be utilized to enhance teaching and learning experiences, and

o Championing process improvements in support of faculty success.

  • Work in collaboration with the Centre for Academic Development and Innovation on complementary services.

  • Curriculum Renewal and Maintenance (30%)

  • Facilitate the successful delivery of courses and programs by collaborating with staff and faculty to have course materials prepared and released in advance of course delivery, monitoring curriculum changes and supporting coordination of corresponding revisions, and coaching faculty on delivery innovations, continuous improvement, and quality assurance efforts.

  • Work in collaboration with the Centre for Applied Education and Innovation on complementary supports.

  • Support the development of new programs and delivery methods through activities including assisting with needs assessments, program design, proposal writing, and management of curriculum development projects.

  • Academic Chair Support (10%)

  • At the direction of Academic Chairs,

o Support logistical processes associated with adjunct and casual faculty talent pools, and

o Contribute to advancing program goals and school initiatives effectively and sustainably.

  • Compile relevant data on effectiveness of current training initiatives and make recommendations to Academic Chairs and partners outside School of Business on teaching and learning training and support needs.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum

  • Degree in education or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of experience and education.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills or training experience.

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, and demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently communicate with a large number of individuals verbally and in writing.

  • Preferred

  • Minimum Master’s degree or equivalent is an asset.

  • Project management experience is an asset.

  • Experience in a post-secondary environment or with a learning management system (e.g., Brightspace) is an asset.

  • Supervisory experience in an operations coordinating role is an asset.

Salary range: $72,150 - $82,000

Paid Leave: 4 Weeks Vacation / 14 Flex Days per year
