About Our Team

Surveillance of the skies and critical areas is the purpose of surface radars. The performance of the radars is based on complex and highly demanding digital systems which require the mastery of multiple disciplines in computer science and electronics (e.g. signal processing, embedded software development, artificial intelligence, hardware, cybersecurity etc.).

Surface Radars (SRA) business line starts its development in Thales Romania by extending the operations of Land and Air Systems (LAS) department.

A typical work day:

• Scrum ceremonies
• Solving any pending or blocking issues
• Develop new features and solve bugs
• Collaborate with other teams (e.g. Integration, Validation, System etc.)
• Technical design sessions
• Contribute to estimating enhancement requests for prospective and existing customers

About the Role We Are Looking For

We are now creating a new team and we look for an Engineering Manager / Technical Leader to help in creating and growing the team. The new colleague should demonstrate care for people and have a strong background in computer science and electronics with proven experience with C++, object programming and system architecture.

The willingness to work in an international and multi-disciplinary environment are a must for this role.

You will join a team in the domain of radars, developing complete features (on all components of the product), in order to promote your creativity through the implementation of new practices and introduction of technological and methodological innovations to prepare tomorrow’s airspace surveillance using surface radars.

As an engineering manager you will be responsible for estimating, implementing, supporting, monitoring the team activities and reporting.

Business travel to France (around Paris) will be required for transferring competencies and establishing friendly human relationships with our stakeholders.

Technical Skills

Required:

• Experience leading a team of at least 5 years and more than 10 years of experience in software development (in C, Ada or C++)
• Previous experience as software or solution architect
• Ability to document and coach colleagues on complex technical issues (presentations, wiki pages for products, pairing sessions with peers etc.)
• Contribute actively to communities (e.g. leadership of department) and implement leadership initiatives
• Willingness to discover the World of Surface Radars and Surveillance
• Scripting languages: Bash, Python, Perl etc.
• Familiar with Continuous Integration environments (e.g.: Jenkins)
• Knowledge of configuration and change management tools (e.g. JIRA)
• Linux
• Git
