Your team: Reporting into the Director of People & Culture, you will be joining a creative People team that is passionate about fostering an inclusive and vibrant work culture, serving as a key pillar in driving Pan Macmillan’s strategic objectives and vision.

Your role:
As the Head of DEI & Social Impact, you will lead on Pan Macmillan’s DEI strategy and ensure that we are maximising our capacity for positive social impact while adapting to societal changes and meeting legal requirements. You will also help us maintain a competitive edge to help us attract talent from broad and diverse backgrounds. This pivotal role provides an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to our company’s progress on DEI and social impact goals, through promotion and support for reading and literacy.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive DEI strategy in line with our mission, addressing DEI objectives to achieve strategic goals
  • Create and oversee innovative programmes aimed at improving DEI across the organisation and the broader publishing industry
  • Work alongside key stakeholders to launch initiatives to boost literacy and education among underrepresented communities
  • Partner with community groups and educational institutions to further DEI and literacy efforts
  • Use data to inform decision-making, measure progress towards DEI and literacy goals, and regularly report findings to stakeholders
  • Collaborate with the People & Culture team to embed DEI principles into operational practices, recruitment and employee development
  • Represent Pan Macmillan on DEI and literacy, leading public advocacy, media engagements, and developing internal and external communications strategies.

Essential experience, abilities and knowledge you’ll need to succeed:

  • Experience in implementing DEI initiatives with demonstrable impact
  • Strong understanding of DEI trends and regulatory guidelines
  • Knowledge of UK and global literacy gaps and the impact on social mobility and economic outcomes for people
  • Excellent leadership and decision-making skills
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • A keen interest in the publishing industry.

This is a full time, permanent role, and will be based in our offices in Farringdon, London, with some flexibility to work from home each week.
