Our imprints include Macmillan (Fiction and Non-Fiction), Tor, Mantle and Macmillan Business, and we publish a fantastic range of market-leading fiction and non-fiction. This role sits within the dynamic, fun and award-winning Communications team. You will work on titles across all our imprints, so no two days will be the same!

Your role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative, enthusiastic and persistent individual to help ensure our books find as many readers and supporters as possible. As Press Officer, you will work on titles from across the Pan list, and deliver top-tier publicity campaigns for them, working closely with colleagues in editorial, marketing and sales. We would expect you to build strong relationships with media, event organizers and bloggers, and also demonstrate first-class author care. In this busy and wide-ranging role, you will also have the chance to work with more senior team members on their campaigns, to ensure that you are always learning and experiencing the breadth of our list.

Your key responsibilities:

  • To plan and implement effective, audience-appropriate PR campaigns for our fiction and non-fiction titles, co-ordinating and liaising with all relevant internal departments, and providing a high level of author and agent care

  • To pitch and organize events, tours and festival appearances, both physical and virtual, including engagement with promotional opportunities outside the publishing industry

  • To maintain and further build effective personal relationships with a broad range of media, podcasts, digital event and industry contacts

  • To maintain market awareness, to analyse the effectiveness of your own publicity campaigns as well as those of competitors and to use those findings to strengthen future Pan communications campaigns

  • To help build a first-class reputation for the Pan Communications team both internally and externally

  • To support other members of the team with the smooth running of high-priority campaigns and events.

Essential experience, abilities and knowledge you’ll need to succeed:

  • An understanding of what is needed to deliver a successful publicity campaign for a book

  • Knowledge of the media landscape (especially book media), social media channels, literary event schedules and an understanding of where genres fit

  • Strong personal organization and time-management skills with excellent attention to detail

  • Able to prioritize effectively and stay calm under pressure

  • A great communicator, able to craft spoken and written pitches that are tailored to their audience, attention-grabbing and memorable – and convey your personal passion, with the ability to confidently communicate effectively to a wide range of people

  • Aptitude and flair for team work – working effectively in both a team and independently

  • Skilled at building close working relationships with authors, where you collaborate over ideas, share expertise and provide support throughout the publication process

  • Enjoy reading commercial fiction and non-fiction.

Desirable skills we’d love you to have:

  • Knowledge of the wider publishing industry, competitor awareness and trade press

  • A proven track record of working on successful PR campaigns.

What you’ll get in return:
In return we can offer you a range of great projects, a supportive and collaborative working environment as well as a competitive salary and benefits package.

Salary: Starting from £30,000

Closing Date: 28th June
