Your team:

Harriman House, part of the Pan Macmillan publishing group, is a UK-based but globally focused publisher operating in the business and finance space. We have established a really strong reputation in our sector by creating high-quality and highly respected titles and giving our authors an exceptional publishing experience. In recent years we have driven rapid growth in the business, particularly in the US, and are now looking for someone to join our small team to help us accelerate this growth through top-notch PR capability.

At the same time, parent group Pan Macmillan has recently enhanced its distribution of its adult fiction and non-fiction catalogue into the US market through its US sister company and is looking for focused PR support on a select range of stand-out titles.

Your role:
As the US-based Publicity Manager for Harriman House and Pan Macmillan, you will plan and deliver dynamic and effective publicity campaigns for a range of adult trade fiction and non-fiction titles. You will execute fully integrated PR plans while working closely with the marketing, editorial, digital and sales teams to support on pitches and new campaign presentations.

When you are supporting Harriman House, your focus will be centred primarily around finance, investment, wealth management, business/leadership and personal development titles.

For Pan Macmillan titles, your approach will be genre-led as you will be working across categories such as lifestyle, history, crime, thriller, romance, smart thinking, and current affairs.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Build media relationships with existing and new journalists, influencers and bloggers to drive media engagement and create a buzz around key titles
  • Write compelling press releases with an unrivalled ability to connect with an audience
  • Help to inform our acquisition strategy and list-building approach by proactively keeping abreast of the PR-related market and competitor activity
  • Collaborate closely with authors and the wider team to reinforce the value of the Harriman House and Pan Macmillan brands and profile of our books
  • Submit titles to the appropriate range of trade publications, such as Publishers Weekly and Kirkus
  • Collaborate with UK-based marketeers to ensure a coordinated approach with paid-for opportunities.

Essential experience, abilities and knowledge you’ll need to succeed:

In order to be successful in this role, you will be a highly organized communications expert with exceptional people skills. You will have creative flair with the ability to write punchy copy combined with a meticulous eye for detail, the ability to juggle multiple campaigns at once and manage (and exceed!) author expectations. You will have an audience-led mindset and a strong understanding of how to grab readers’ attention regardless of the subject matter of the title. You will also need:

  • Proven experience of planning and driving strategic publicity campaigns

  • Previous experience in PR and / or marketing with a book publisher

  • An established network of US bloggers, influencers and media contacts

  • Traditional mass market (print and broadcast) and digital media experience

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure

  • Adept at managing multiple projects and deadlines while prioritizing time effectively and flexibly.

Desirable skills we’d love you to have:

  • An interest in financial / business media combined with experience working with specialist media to reach genre-driven audiences

What you’ll get in return:
In return we can offer you a range of great projects, a supportive and collaborative working environment as well as a competitive salary and benefits package.

Salary: Starting from $60,000

Closing Date: July 7 2024

Location: New York (US-based remote workers may be considered)
