Job Description

The Maintenance Specialist II performs semi-skilled work operations with a substantive degree of autonomy in one or more of the following occupations; plumbing, heating, and air conditioning, carpentry, painting and/or basic equipment repair and possesses certifications for abatement of hazardous materials including, but not limited to asbestos.

Essential Functions

  • Performs routing maintenance and servicing of equipment such as cleaning condenser coils, replacing or cleaning filters, checking oil levels, adding or changing oil, lubricating, and draining water from air tanks.
  • Performs such plumbing operations as cutting, threading and joining pipe, replacing gaskets and washers, unstopping drains, repair/replace valves in campus buildings and grounds areas, without detailed instructions from supervisor.
  • Performs such operations as cutting lumber to specified lengths, removing partitions, sheet rock, ceiling and other materials to prepare for repairs, replacing window glass, repairing screen doors and performing rough carpentry being guided by detailed instruction.
  • Install and/or repair internal and external walls such as sheet rock, paneling, trim and siding being guided by trade practice, blueprints and verbal instruction.

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Two years experience in general maintenance or building construction
  • Dependability

  • Must have a valid Texas Drivers’ license and be insurable under TSTC’s Liability Policy
  • Abatement Certification from an accredited agency
